A Robot’s Radical Ride

Cartoon fans that are fond of robots certainly wouldn’t miss any Megas XLR show which is produced by Cartoon Network.

Most viewers would wonder how is it to gun down the forces of evil while driving the main giant robot Megas. The name stands for Mechanized Earth Guard Attack System. Megas’ head is also fitted with Coop’s (main Megas XLR character) 1970 Plymouth Hemi Barracuda convertible with Shaker hood scoop along with its newly modified Plymouth parts.

Megas is imbued in blue with yellow flames and other details such as an 8-ball patch on the arm. It does take a modernized twist on robots which appeals to the younger generation. After a couple of episodes, Megas is renamed as Megas XLR which stands for eXtra Large Robot for a simpler take to it.

Because of the Megas’ revisions, Megas can only be piloted by Coop. Its equipment includes unusual but familiar components.

Here are the specifics on the original robot equipment (component names are humorous and later on, Coop finds another version – the Megas 2.0):

  • Eight-ball Fireball – it projects a Hadoken-like fireball that resembles a billiard 8-ball
  • Forehead-Smash button – Coop smashes his head against the large button causing the Megas to do some bizarre moves
  • The Jammer – a ridiculous but handy weapons-grade karaoke system that’s capable of generating a wave of sonic destruction with the power to annihilate a space station.
  • Super-Destructor Mode – it resembles a Destroid Monster from Macross and is a mode that covers Megas from head to toe in missile launchers
  • Mazer Refractor – capable of firing a beam that creates an invincible force field. If the polarity is reversed, it creates a reverse shield that lets everything in and nothing out.
  • Giant Energy Sword – hands of Megas can create a huge energy sword in manner similar to Voltron
  • Blade – blades surrounded Megas’ entire body with appearances of spinning blades
  • Nitrous – a mode that accelerates Megas’ speed a thousand times
  • Manual Override – used as a back-up when the automatic driving gears fail

  • Red Button of Irony – involves using the enemy’s own beam of destruction against them
  • Light Gun – gun must be reloaded after eight shots
  • Custom Horn – Megas’ custom horn that plays La cucaracha that enrages a colony of dragon-like alien creatures
  • Destroy the World button – it has a hilarious smiley face on it
  • Smite the World button- self-explanatory button
  • Save the World button – broken
  • Heater Flamethrower – Megas’ arms come together making a “rock on” gesture. The hands then retract and an enormous blast of flames is fired
  • Mega-laser – Megas’ arms can also fire off a massive laser beam

  • This Better The – twin axes sprouting from Megas’ wrists
  • Robot Integration System – gives Megas the ability to integrate parts
  • Ice Blaster - the center of Megas’s chest retracts and pulls out a giant laser
