Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors

Who can forget about the ‘80s French/American/Japanese animated TV show, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors? Recently it’s been released in DVD form (Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors - Escape from the Garden of Evil), so fans of the cartoon will be able to kick back and enjoy nostalgic moments, seeing the entire series once again with episodes from “Escape from the Garden”, “The Vase of Xiang”, “Steel against Shadow” and “Flora, Fauna, and the Monster Minds”.

It attracted a whole gamut of fans worldwide, not only with its mainstay characters but also with its vehicles. The show featured the “good guys” as humans called the Lightning League who drove white and silver vehicles with assorted weaponry led by Jayce. The antagonists are organic green vegetable-based creatures called the Monster Minds who morphs into the shape of green and black vehicles and led by Saw Boss.

Here are the fascinating Lightning League vehicles which can operate on pre-programmed battle plans without drivers through Jayce’s communicator:

• Armed Force – a vehicle with a large golden grappling arm mounted on top of it
• Drill Sergeant – a two-seater vehicle with a drill capable of digging tunnels
• Quick Draw – a vehicle equipped with a concealed gun in a shield atop it and only seats a single passenger
• Spike Trike – a three-wheeled vehicle built for speed.
• Trail Blazer – a massive, four-legged vehicle with a front-mounted battering ram, capable of heaving smaller vehicles.
• Battle Base – a mobile fortress that houses all other vehicles and is usually attached to the League’s ship as its bridge.
• Fling Shot – a vehicle equipped with a catapult, built in “the Stallions of Sandeen”.
• Spray gunner – a vehicle with a cannon that sprays different kinds of fluids
• Motor Module – low-riding with a powerful drive system usually used to field repair other vehicles or to tow loads in an attachable trailer
• Pride of the Skies II (also known as “the barge”) – a ship owned by Herc Stormsailer and home to the Lightning League throughout the series
• Space Scooter – a small air bike
• Emergency Cruiser – the Pride’s seldom used shuttle craft

Of course, we can’t forget the Monster Mind vehicles that change from their humanoid forms into vehicles upon leaving their headquarters (although they are much larger).

• Saw Troopers – vehicles with a large buzzsaw on a rooting stalk
• Terror Troopers – tank-like vehicles with a large, venus flytrap-like mouth mounted on the body
• Gun Troopers – vehicle with a cluster of cannons clenched in its teeth. Its main weaponry was a multi-headed spiked flail mounted on top of its auto body parts
• K.O. Troopers – truck-like vehicles with a large wrecking ball-like stalk
• Beast Walkers – large, four-legged vehicles with a front-mounted claw weapon that are the powerhouse of a Monster Mind clone army
• Flapjacks – vans with a catapult
• Lurchers – vehicles that don a front ram
• Snapdragons – smaller four-legged walking vehicles with a front-mounted “petals” that opened like a flower to reveal a laser cannon.

The vehicles are sourced from wikipedia.com.

A Robot’s Radical Ride

Cartoon fans that are fond of robots certainly wouldn’t miss any Megas XLR show which is produced by Cartoon Network.

Most viewers would wonder how is it to gun down the forces of evil while driving the main giant robot Megas. The name stands for Mechanized Earth Guard Attack System. Megas’ head is also fitted with Coop’s (main Megas XLR character) 1970 Plymouth Hemi Barracuda convertible with Shaker hood scoop along with its newly modified Plymouth parts.

Megas is imbued in blue with yellow flames and other details such as an 8-ball patch on the arm. It does take a modernized twist on robots which appeals to the younger generation. After a couple of episodes, Megas is renamed as Megas XLR which stands for eXtra Large Robot for a simpler take to it.

Because of the Megas’ revisions, Megas can only be piloted by Coop. Its equipment includes unusual but familiar components.

Here are the specifics on the original robot equipment (component names are humorous and later on, Coop finds another version – the Megas 2.0):

  • Eight-ball Fireball – it projects a Hadoken-like fireball that resembles a billiard 8-ball
  • Forehead-Smash button – Coop smashes his head against the large button causing the Megas to do some bizarre moves
  • The Jammer – a ridiculous but handy weapons-grade karaoke system that’s capable of generating a wave of sonic destruction with the power to annihilate a space station.
  • Super-Destructor Mode – it resembles a Destroid Monster from Macross and is a mode that covers Megas from head to toe in missile launchers
  • Mazer Refractor – capable of firing a beam that creates an invincible force field. If the polarity is reversed, it creates a reverse shield that lets everything in and nothing out.
  • Giant Energy Sword – hands of Megas can create a huge energy sword in manner similar to Voltron
  • Blade – blades surrounded Megas’ entire body with appearances of spinning blades
  • Nitrous – a mode that accelerates Megas’ speed a thousand times
  • Manual Override – used as a back-up when the automatic driving gears fail
  • Headlight lasers – headlights of the car that forms Megas’ head project lasers that can be increased by using the Hi-Beam option
  • 5 Minutes Till End of Episode – Megas’ fists burst into flames enabling it to melt anything it touches
  • Do Not Touch button – launches multiple nuclear warheads
  • Red Button of Irony – involves using the enemy’s own beam of destruction against them
  • Light Gun – gun must be reloaded after eight shots
  • Custom Horn – Megas’ custom horn that plays La cucaracha that enrages a colony of dragon-like alien creatures
  • Destroy the World button – it has a hilarious smiley face on it
  • Smite the World button- self-explanatory button
  • Save the World button – broken
  • Heater Flamethrower – Megas’ arms come together making a “rock on” gesture. The hands then retract and an enormous blast of flames is fired
  • Mega-laser – Megas’ arms can also fire off a massive laser beam
  • Special Move Controls – with these controls, Megas can inflict sorts of physical violence
  • This Better The – twin axes sprouting from Megas’ wrists
  • Robot Integration System – gives Megas the ability to integrate parts
  • Ice Blaster - the center of Megas’s chest retracts and pulls out a giant laser
  • Destroy Moth-Like Bug and Anti-Cocoon buttons – weapon of choice for bugs
  • Phoenix Explosion – Megas becomes enveloped in a firebird-shaped corona of flames
  • Fire Missiles, Fire More Missiles and Fire All Da Missiles – enables to fire Megas missiles
  • Active Camouflage – Megas’ ability to camouflage
  • Teleporter – good for teleportation
  • Universal Controller – can control every device and appliances, overriding every TV screen and monitor
  • Atomic Disrupter Cannon – a powerful beam that burns through anything
  • Shields – activating this button only causes the car to stop
  • Power Saw – Megas’ right hand will retract revealing a chainsaw
  • Green Laser Attacks – by pressing a big red button, Megas puts its hands together in Hadoken/Kamehameha style and shoots an energy beam
  • Ultimate Control Pad – joystick/control pad with over 50 buttons!
