The Jetsons’ Space Car

If the Flinstones are from the stone age, welcome to the space age, baby! Here comes the Jetsons, the official family of the future!

This is the age where machines do all the work, robots are your slaves and all you have to do is push the button. Houses are up in the sky and cars fly around like airplanes.

And furthermore, you can park your car in an attache case! Yes, you heard me right. Space cars in this cartoon show can be safely hidden inside your file case, therefore saving your pockets from parking fees. Space cars look like mini-spaceships and looks may vary depending on their models and the owner’s social status.

George is the head of the family, a great father to his kids with a huge sense of humor. He is forever frightened with his boss, Mr. Spacey, who always threatens to fire him every single day. Jane, his wife is a shoppaholic. Most of the time, George goes bankrupt because of Jane’s shopping problem. However, she is a great mother to their children, giving them solutions to problems when times need it.

Judy is their ever-sweet teen-age daughter who has a boyfriend while Elroy is their youngest, who happens to be the one closest to their family pet, Astro.

Welcome to the future!

the batmobile

Here’s a car to end all cartoon cars: the Batmobile. The Batmobile is probably the hippest cartoon car in existence. Come to think about it though: cars are really not that prevalent in cartoons. And if a character has a car, it would just be your usual car caricature. Here’s my 5 cents worth on why:

1. Animal cartoon characters rarely need a car. In the twisted world of cartoons, they can just appear on the scene instantly or run faster than bullets.

2. Superheroes can usually fly or they have fantastical robots to fly them. Superheroes who couldn’t fly can run fast.

3. Cars are hard to draw and what’s the point in drawing them anyway.

Batman though is an exception. This is because unlike most superheroes, he doesn’t have any super powers. So he relies on martial arts, detective skills, and of course gadgets like the Batmobile. In Batman, the Animated Series, the Batmobile is limo-like in construction, with an extended front and generous Gothic lines. The Batmobile itself is fitted with gadgets like tear gas dispensers, wheel slashers, and missile rack.
